Prof Sunil Bhandari is a consultant nephrologist at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust and an Honorary Clinical Professor at the Hull York Medical School (HYMS).
He graduated from the University of Edinburgh, trained in Renal and Transplant Medicine in Yorkshire (UK) and Sydney Australia. He has clinical and laboratory interests in the signalling pathways in uraemic cardiomyopathy, including effects of iron on mitochondrial function & the progression of renal disease.
He is lead investigator for several clinical studies, including STOP-ACEi and Iron and the Heart. He has co-authored over 100 papers in peer reviewed journals. In addition to his research he has long-standing interests in medical education serving as Joint Director of UK Advanced Nephrology Course, UK Applied Nephrology course and Deputy Head of School of Medicine – Health Education England Yorkshire and Humber and member on the Specialist Exam Writing Committee. He is serves as the International Director for RCPE.
